imaging/diagnostics
A complete range of imaging and diagnostic services is available to physicians to help make accurate and speedy diagnosis of diseases and abnormalities. Accredited by the College of American Pathology (CAP), the laboratory at Trinity Hospital offers full service clinical and pathology procedures and conducts all standard tests. X-ray and imaging capabilities include MRI, CT, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, digital mammography and special radiology procedures. An accredited vascular laboratory within the Radiology Department provides diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. An endoscopy lab is equipped with endoscopic ultrasound equipment dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal system. Neurodiagnostics is a field of science devoted to recording and studying the electrical activity of the brain and nervous system. This activity is recorded using the following procedures:
Preparing for a Test 1. Must have a written order from a physician for all procedures. 2. Wash hair and skin on the day of the test. Do NOT use any oils, lotions or creams. 3. Eat as normal. 4. Take medications as normal (and bring a list of the medications you are taking). 5. Bring glasses or contacts if having a visual evoked potential. 6. Most procedures take 1-2 hours to complete. Remember diagnosis is the first step towards treatment. Results All neurodiagnostic procedures are interpreted by a specially trained physician. For more information about neurodiagnostic procedures or scheduling, call the Trinity Hospital Neurodiagnostic Department at 857-5543, 857-5000, or toll free in ND at 1-800-862-0005. Records electrical activity of the brain to diagnose and/or monitor: • seizures Records electrical potentials from the eyes to document induced or spontaneous nystagmus. Used primarily for evaluation of patients with dizziness or vestibular lesions. Also referred to as a Balance Function Test. Records the electrical activity of muscles for evaluation of muscle weakness, spasms, and paralysis or pain in the arms, hands, legs or face. Performed by a specially trained physician, an EMG also can determine if a disease involves the spinal cord, nerves, muscles or the nerve-muscle junction. Also called Evoked Responses. This test consists of three separate procedures, each focusing on a different nerve pathway. Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential (BAEP)… Somatosensory Evoked Potential (SEP)… Visual Evoked Potential (VEP)… Evaluates electrical potentials from peripheral nerves by recording the speed of the impulses through the nerves. The NCS is valuable in diagnosing and treating many disorders including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Trinity Health is proud to be the first breast image center in North Dakota to offer digital mammography. Research has shown that digital mammography does a better job of detecting tumors in younger women and women with dense-tissue breasts. It’s the most advanced technology available for screening mammograms – the first line of defense against breast cancer. Benefits of Trinity’s MAMMOMAT Novation digital mammography system: Lowest Radiation: reduces radiation dose by more than 40% Increased Patient Comfort: flexible paddles and a patented technique senses breast thickness for a more comfortable compression Increased Detection: Helps increase cancer detection rates with Computer Assisted Diagnosis (CAD) markers Largest Detector in the Industry: Allows imaging of almost all breast sizes Increased Detection of small and low contrast tumors
